Origin

After the French Revolution, it was noticed that the youngters spent much of their time in loitering around and indulging themselves, in immoral and anti-social activities. Bartolomea Capitanio, a young girl, was deeply disturbed by these problems and felt the urge to commit herself whole heartedly to the personal growth and development of the youth.

Her main aim was to uplift the youth, whom ‘she held very dear to her heart’, so that they would become agents of change to form a better and prosperous society.

Gerosa, a young lady was Bartolommeo’s close associate in starting the society of Sisters of Charity. Following their examples, and affirming the needs of the time, the Sisters of Charity have dedicated themselves to the education of the youth to ensure all round development for the progress of the society.
